On 4th February 2025, Karma Nirvana hosted the #Push4Change Westminster screening of The Push: Murder on the Cliff, a powerful two-part documentary exploring the tragic case of Fawziyah Javed. In 2021, Fawziyah – who was pregnant at the time – was pushed to her death from Arthur’s Seat by her abusive husband. This event commemorated Fawziyah’s life and served as a pledge to do everything possible to end preventable deaths like hers in the future, in collaboration with Candour TV and Channel 4.
The event was incredibly moving, and the response has been incredible. We would like to thank all our keynote speakers, alongside Yasmin Javed and our Survivor Ambassador Panel, which was a particularly poignant section of the event, where members shared personal testimonies that reinforced the urgent need for a statutory definition. Their courage and determination resonated throughout the room, highlighting why this change is so vital.
A Call for a Statutory Definition of Honour-Based Abuse
The event aimed to raise awareness about Honour-Based Abuse (HBA) and the urgent need for a statutory definition. Alongside sector partners, Karma Nirvana has been campaigning for this legal change and launched #Push4Change in response to The Push: Murder on the Cliff.

The event featured:
- Exclusive clips from The Push: Murder on the Cliff.
- Discussions with survivor ambassadors, expert professionals, and policymakers.
- A deep dive into the need for a statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse, the significance of using the term ‘honour’, and the process of developing the proposed legal definition.

- Dame Nicole Jacobs – Domestic Abuse Commissioner
- Yasmin Javed – Fawziyah Javed’s mother, campaigning for justice in her daughter’s name.

- Alex Sobel MP – Member of Parliament for Leeds Central and Headingley.

Looking Ahead
The #Push4Change campaign continues to push for a statutory definition of Honour-Based Abuse, ensuring victims are properly identified and protected. With each day that passes without this change, women and girls remain at risk due to systemic failures.
This event reinforced the urgent need for action and brought together survivors, policymakers, and experts to work towards a future without HBA.
