At Karma Nirvana, our mission is to end Honour Based Abuse and protect individuals from child marriage. After a decade-long campaign, we succeeded in enacting new legislation to address child marriage in England and Wales—a crucial step forward. However, as highlighted in our ‘Child Marriage: One Year On’ Report, despite legislative efforts to protect children from child marriage in England and Wales, many statutory safeguarding professionals remain unaware of the new changes to the law.
The recent case of a 15-year-old girl at risk of being married overseas reveals gaps in current protections and the urgent need for better coordination among key agencies.
In response, Karma Nirvana is offering a free training seminar for social workers and police officers. Delivered by our Executive Director Natasha Rattu, this seminar will provide essential guidance and knowledge to enhance the identification, prevention, and response to child marriage cases.
