About Karma Nirvana
Founded in 1993, Karma Nirvana is an award-winning organisation working towards ending honour based abuse in the UK. Our vision is to end honour-based abuse in the UK. Our mission is to support, to educate, to empower and to communicate with and on behalf of those who suffer from the threat of honour-based abuse, and to improve how honour-based abuse is perceived, detected and legislated against.
Karma Nirvana’s Survivor Ambassador Panel (SAP)
The Survivor Ambassador Panel (SAP) is a group of survivors of honour-based abuse and forced marriage who work in partnership with Karma Nirvana to help us remain true to our mission. SAP members are not service users or clients – they are partners and co-creators, bringing their lived experience to the heart of everything we do.
SAP Workstreams
The SAP operates across three main workstreams:
- Advisor — helping Karma Nirvana to get things right through consultation and service design
- Advocate — influencing change through campaigning and systemic engagement
- Education and Awareness — raising awareness of HBA through media, training delivery, and creative work
Fundraising is not a separate workstream — it is a core expectation embedded across all SAP membership. All members are expected to contribute to income generation and sustainability activities as part of their role, regardless of which workstream they primarily sit within. Members who wish to focus predominantly on fundraising activity are welcome to do so.
When survivors join the panel, there will be asked to indicate a preference for a specific workstream(s). SAP members can choose multiple workstreams. The SAP Lead will review workstream membership on an annual basis, or sooner if required. This will always be in consultation with the SAP member.
