Solicitor General visits Karma Nirvana

Karma Nirvana was pleased to welcome the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Ellie Reeves KC MP.

Karma Nirvana was pleased to welcome the Solicitor General, Rt Hon Ellie Reeves KC MP, to our offices last week, where she met with staff to learn more about our work supporting victims and survivors affected by honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and other harmful practices.

During the visit, the Solicitor General heard directly about the challenges victims face when seeking safety and justice, and the specialist support provided through Karma Nirvana’s national helpline.

Strengthening victims’ rights across the criminal justice system

The visit took place as the Government expands the Victims’ Right to Review (VRR) scheme into further regions, enabling more victims to request a review of certain prosecution decisions. The Government has described the expansion as part of efforts to strengthen confidence in the justice system and ensure victims’ voices are better heard.

Our message: specialist understanding saves lives

Honour-based abuse is complex and can involve multiple perpetrators, coercive control and high risk. We continue to call for survivor-informed practice and consistent specialist understanding across the criminal justice system so that victims are recognised earlier, protected safely, and supported to pursue justice.

We are grateful to the Solicitor General for taking the time to meet our team and listen to the realities victims and survivors face. We look forward to continuing to work with partners across the criminal justice system to remove barriers and improve outcomes for those at risk.
