Summer holidays are a time of heightened risk for Child Marriage.
Children at risk of forced marriage may show signs such as:
- Sudden plans to travel abroad, especially linked to recent discoveries about relationships or other actions deemed ‘dishonourable’ by family members
- Conversations about or mentioning plans or expectations of getting married abroad.
- Strict boundaries on behaviour and dress that may have recently become more imposing
- Isolation, or unexplained long absences from school or activities
- Decline in academic performance or sudden disinterest in future academic plans or career paths
- Physical signs of abuse or frequent health issues.
- Anxiety, depression, or fear of family members.
Stay vigilant and be aware of these signs to protect children from child marriage. If you suspect a child is at risk, contact our helpline on 0800 5999 247 for support.
