The tragic deaths of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar in Southport have shocked the whole country. Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones. These young girls deserved to live full lives, and this showcases the urgent need to ensure Women and Girls are protected from violence, and we have a duty to make sure they are better protected in the future.
Unfortunately, rather than give these families the space to mourn these unjust deaths, we’ve seen riots across the UK throughout this week. Despite the reality of who was responsible for harming Bebe, Elsie and Alice, these young girls’ deaths have been hijacked for prejudicial and racial means, causing further fear, harm and destruction.
Our hearts are heavy with grief, and we have been appalled by the extreme attacks, which is nothing short of senseless violence. This is a time for unity and peace, not further hate, violence and division. The deaths of these young girls deserve our full attention, but unfortunately, their memory has been overshadowed by the chaos caused by these riots.
We understand that many may feel unsafe amid the surge in racist violence and threats. Please remain safe and take the time to look after yourselves and your loved ones. As a united front, we at Karma Nirvana stand in solidarity against any form of violence and discrimination, which has no place in our society.
At times like these, it’s more important than ever that we come together, and we are here to support all those affected. Some of our services may be affected by the riots, as we always uphold the safety and well-being of our staff and those we support. We appreciate your understanding and patience, and hope to return to our usual delivery as soon as possible.
