Karma Nirvana has been commissioned by the Home Office to develop a new suite of national e-learning modules on Honour-Based Abuse (HBA) and associated harmful practices.
The programme will provide statutory professionals across safeguarding sectors with the knowledge and confidence to identify, respond to, and prevent HBA.
This four-part e-learning package will cover:
- Core concepts of honour, control, shame, and punishment
- The crimes of virginity testing and hymenoplasty
- Breast flattening
- Principles of effective multi-agency working
Drawing on more than three decades of frontline expertise, Karma Nirvana will ensure the training is survivor-led, trauma-informed, and grounded in real-world safeguarding practice. The modules will be developed in close collaboration with the Survivor Ambassador Panel (SAP), ensuring lived experience remains at the heart of the content.
As part of the development process, Karma Nirvana will launch a national consultation, inviting input from stakeholders across government, statutory agencies, and the specialist and wider Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) sector. This consultation will ensure the e-learning reflects the collective expertise and real-world experiences of those working to prevent and respond to Honour-Based Abuse.
This project marks an important step forward in ensuring all professionals can recognise and respond to Honour-Based Abuse with confidence and compassion. Our partnership with the Home Office will help embed a survivor-centred approach to safeguarding across all sectors.
Natasha Rattu, Executive Director of Karma Nirvana.
Development begins this month, with the national e-learning programme due to launch in 2026.
